Hi there! My name is Miss Tyler (because it’s cruel to make kids say a big long name like Tyler Dawn Rosenquist) and I have been teachings adults and kids the Ancient Near Eastern and First Century context of Scripture for close to two years now. I have been a believer since 1999. Studying the world of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and our Messiah is my passion – it’s all about understanding the world they lived in so that I can teach what they were doing and saying. As I always say, context is what keeps my imagination from running wild when I read Scripture – context keeps my imagination from masquerading as the Holy Spirit!
I want to teach your kids how to be context detectives through my videos and books. My videos are out weekly on my youtube channel Context for Kids and my books are available on Amazon.com. My goal is to educate families together – I don’t want to simply babysit kids, or entertain them, I want to equip them to truly be able to study and understand the Bible before they go off to college and some well-meaning college professor tells them that the Bible wasn’t really written when it says it was written, or by who it says it was written by. And those are the believing college professors!
We haven’t been taking kids seriously enough, but I have been watching kids learn and develop a real passion for the Word. Kids don’t like things that make them feel stupid, and so I believe context is key because context is something that makes kids feel smart. Context is empowering. Context is faith-building. Context puts kids on par, and even beyond most of the adults around them when it comes to understanding what they are reading.
Context transforms the Bible from an unfathomable mystery into a big puzzle, and piece by piece, your kids can start to recognize which pieces go where and become serious Bible scholars now and not simply if or when they go seeking out a PhD. I teach college level materials to kids – not by dumbing it down, but by slowing it down. I also use smaller and familiar words because really, who needs to read or listen with a dictionary on their lap?
I hope that you will join the revolution – it’s time to change Children’s ministry. Kids deserve more than coloring pictures of Noah’s ark while listening to worship music because, as a generation, they will face challenges we can barely imagine. Maybe we ought to start treating them like the next generation of warriors – because that’s exactly what they are.
Much love,
Miss Tyler
